Die 3-Minuten-Regel: Warum ich manche Güsse wegwerfe

The 3-Minute Rule: Why I Discard Some Castings

Sometimes, it's decided in the first three minutes whether a fragrance stone will stay or go into the reject pile. Three minutes in which the plaster sets, bubbles rise, small cracks appear – and in which it becomes clear whether everything fits or not.

Every detail counts when pouring: the temperature of the water, the mixture, the stirring, the timing. If the plaster binds too quickly, fine lines appear that will remain visible later. If it reacts too slowly, particles settle, and the surface becomes uneven. These small differences might only be visible when the stone comes out of the mold – but they make the difference between "good" and "perfect."

The 3-minute rule is my silent quality check. In this short time, I check if the mixture is uniform, if air bubbles rise, if the material behaves as it should. If not, the casting is discarded. No compromise, even if it's a shame. Because every piece that remains should convey the feeling that arises in the workshop: tranquility, care, and attention to detail.

Sometimes, craftsmanship also means letting go – so that in the end, only what truly convinces remains.

What about you?

Have you ever made something yourself and then discarded it because it didn't quite fit? Or are you on team "just get it done"? 😊

Feel free to write to me – I'm curious to hear your thoughts!

Curious?
